The words of modeling, straight.
The vocabulary bookers use as if it were obvious. Each term, a short definition, and what Odette does with it in the app.
The words of the modeling trade on one page: option, digitals, comp card, buyout, booker, mother agency, call sheet, exclusivity, per diem, fitting, go-see. Each entry says what the word means on a booking and what Odette does with it.
Three words to know before the first casting
The usual payment delay in France: the client pays the agency, then the agency pays you. Two delays add up.
The monthly document listing fees collected, commission, deducted expenses and payout.
Your selection of photos — tests, editorials, campaigns. Ten to fifteen strong images beat forty average ones.
The agency person who pitches you to clients, negotiates and passes on bookings. Your daily contact.
The sum paid for the use of the images (media, territory, term), separate from the day rate. Often the largest line.
The document sent before the shoot: call time, address, crew, schedule, contacts.
An appointment where the client meets you for a specific job. Book, heels, simple outfit; sometimes a digital on the spot.
The model’s business card: a few photos, measurements, agency. Today often a link.
Payment for the day of work. In France, through an agency, paid as salary.
Simple unretouched photos, natural light, plain wall: front, profile, full length, three-quarter. Also called polaroids or polas. What every booker asks for before the season.
A job booked without an agency. You invoice yourself and handle contract, payment and rights.
A commitment not to work for a competitor in a category, territory and period. Must be paid and bounded.
A try-on before a show or shoot.
A meeting with a client or photographer with no specific job, to introduce yourself.
The right you grant the client to use your photo: media, territory, term. A royalty, not salary.
The agency that manages your career and places you with local agencies in other cities. It often takes a share of those agencies’ commission.
The client holds a date without committing. It has a release date: it’s confirmed or released.
The daily allowance on trips, set by the agency contract or the client.
See digitals.
A casting filmed at home to a brief, sent before a deadline. Common in Los Angeles.
An unpaid, or barely paid, shoot to build the book, often with an emerging photographer.
What the client may do with the images: media, territory, term. See image rights.
See agency statement.
The tax taken locally from a non-resident’s fee abroad. Declared afterwards at home.
