Working as a model inSeoul.
Updated Oct 3, 2026
Asia’s fastest-moving market after Tokyo — beauty, K-fashion and e-commerce at scale — on a season system: two or three months on a contract with a local agency that sponsors your visa, houses you and pays a guarantee. What changes when you work as a model in Seoul — seasons, agencies, money — and what Odette keeps in order from your phone.
Seoul works on season contracts of two to three months with a local agency, which sponsors the E-6 visa, advances the flights and the apartment, and pays a monthly guarantee against your fees. Beauty campaigns, K-fashion e-commerce and TV commercials book all year, and Seoul Fashion Week runs in early February and early September. Fees are in won, often quoted in dollars for foreign models, with tax withheld at source.

The Seoul market.
What gets shot here, how the agencies work, at what rhythm the work arrives.
Beauty and skincare campaigns, K-fashion e-commerce in very high volume, TV commercials, and Seoul Fashion Week for the shows. Foreign faces work mostly commercial and beauty; editorial is a smaller share than in Europe.
Two large groups and a set of boutiques, several specialised in foreign models. You sign a season contract of two to three months: the agency sponsors the E-6 visa, advances flights and an apartment, and pays a monthly guarantee against your fees — the Tokyo model.
Seasons around Seoul Fashion Week — early February and early September — with castings in the weeks before. Commercial work runs all year, and the Lunar New Year and Chuseok weeks stop everything.
Money in Seoul.
A guarantee, advances deducted at the end, won quoted in dollars and tax withheld at source: five lines to read before the plane.
A fixed amount per season, often in dollars, paid monthly; fees, commission and advances are reconciled against it at the end
₩400K–900K for e-commerce; beauty and TV campaigns ₩3M–15M before rights — indicative, September 2026
Tax is withheld at source on fees paid in Korea; the certificate is what your declaration at home needs, so ask the agency for it every month
Flights, the apartment, transport: advanced by the agency and deducted from the season’s fees. Read the rates before you fly
Rare on a season contract — the E-6 visa is tied to the sponsoring agency. Direct work is for residents with another status
Commission, terms and dates as of September 2026 — a market moves, and a contract always wins over a page.
Three things she does here without being asked.
- 01The season contract is read before you sign: the guarantee, the commission, the apartment rate, and what happens if the fees do not cover the advances.
- 02Every monthly statement is reconciled against the guarantee and the jobs, so the end-of-season balance is not a surprise.
- 03Call times in Seoul time, with yours in grey beside them — so a booking made from Paris is not an hour off.

Frequently asked
Can I come to Seoul without a contract?
Not to work: the E-6 visa is sponsored by an agency, and tourist entry does not allow paid modeling. Line up the season contract first, through your mother agency or directly with a Seoul agency.
What is a guarantee?
A fixed amount the agency commits to pay you for the season, monthly, whatever you book. At the end, fees earned minus commission and advances are compared to it; if you earned more, you get the difference.
How is the tax handled?
Withheld at source on Korean fees. Keep every certificate: under the double-tax treaty, what was withheld in Korea is credited at home, and your accountant will ask for them.
